What Happens to your Body when you're Stressed?

The body is designed to handle and thrive on stress, but too much can lead to exhaustion and poor health.

When you’re under stress, your body springs into action, but when under too much pressure, stress can cause the body’s endocrine system to pump out intense levels of hormones - these can weaken your immune system and increase your risk of catching illness.  Many of us will feel irritable and have a shorter fuse than normal.  We may also suffer headaches, nausea and tiredness.

Obviously, when we’re stressed it would be best to remove ourselves from the causes, but in the real world, this isn’t always possible.  Fortunately, when a stressful situation cannot be changed, there are techniques that can restore our sense of sanity and help us control the way we cope.

Apart from relaxation techniques such as meditation, there are therapies, such as Reflexology, which can really help.  Reflexology is a “touch” therapy - it is holistic and helps to balance hormone and energy levels.  It has been shown to reduce stress levels effectively.
